Social labs tackle complex problems where progress comes through relationships, experimentation, learning, and adaptation.
LabLoop is an AI-assisted learning system for a team of social lab managers working at the intersection of communities, municipal systems, universities, and the private sector.
Their everyday interactions become signals for understanding how the larger system is changing.
Each manager spends about 15 minutes with an AI learning simulator, reflecting on one real situation from the field.
It might involve a community concern, a municipal bottleneck, a university partnership, a business opportunity, a stakeholder conflict, or something unexpected.
The AI helps the manager examine the situation through systems thinking, stakeholder and power analysis, adaptive leadership, and experimentation.
Each LabLoop Session ends with a small learning action or micro-experiment.
Managers maintain their own AI learning conversations. Together, these provide multiple windows into the system.
Every week, selected conversations feed into a shared LabLoop Radar that looks across the team's work for:
emerging problems and opportunities
community signals
changes within municipal systems
stakeholder and power shifts
university research opportunities
private-sector opportunities and constraints
adaptive challenges
experiments and unexpected results
patterns connecting different actors
The team then uses these signals for collective sensemaking.

LabLoop helps social lab managers operate across four interacting spaces:
Community ↔ Social Lab Team ↔ Municipal Systems
University Partners ↔ Social Lab Team ↔ Private Sector
A signal from one part of the ecosystem can trigger inquiry or experimentation elsewhere.
A community problem can become a university research question. A municipal bottleneck can become a design challenge. A private-sector capability can enable a new experiment. A student project can reveal an opportunity for municipal action.
The learning loop becomes:
Listen → Reflect → Connect → Experiment → Learn → Iterate
A team of social lab managers + 15 minutes a day + weekly LabLoop Radar + continuous ecosystem learning
Over time, interactions, experiments, research, failures, partnerships, and discoveries become a growing institutional memory for the social lab.
LabLoop is an initiative of the AI for Governance Lab of the Asian School of Governance.
AI doesn't run the social lab. It helps the team see the system, connect the actors, and learn faster.
